Workshop with local artist

Students from 6.2 at New Horizons had the wonderful opportunity to work with local artist Benny Semp to make fantastic Diwali lanterns using tissue paper and willow sticks.  The workshop took place on Monday 4th November in partnership with Sampad (South Asian arts and heritage).

Students made their lanterns using tissue paper glued on to a willow stick structure held together with masking tape and PVA glue.  They decorated with a range of colourful tissue paper shapes.  LED lights sat underneath the lanterns illuminated the designs beautifully.

The lanterns were displayed at The Exchange, situated in the University of Birmingham building on Centenary Square on 9th November.
